How to get involved, what to bring, and how we keep in touch with you through Famly.
Getting involved
We encourage parents to be as involved in pre-school as they’d like. You’re welcome to join in one of our sessions, help with fundraising or join our committee. Through the year we also hold special days or weeks when children can bring along their dad or a grandparent, for example.
The parent information board in the classroom is a good place to find out what’s going on.
What to bring
- Suitable shoes and a coat – children play outdoors in all seasons and weathers
- Plenty of changes of clothes
- Nappies, wipes and nappy sacks, if your child is still in nappies
- A packed lunch, if your child is staying for lunch and isn’t having a hot school lunch
Famly
Famly is the app we use to run the pre-school and to help you be more involved in your child’s day. On your iPhone or Android phone you can:
- report sick days and holidays
- send and receive private messages safely
- see an overview of all events
- receive accident forms and invoices
- see photos and videos of your child’s day in the newsfeed
- follow and add to your child’s learning journal
- communicate with other parents
Getting started
You’ll receive an email inviting you to log in to your child’s profile. You can edit the profile and control all the information in it, and you’ll be asked to update your child’s permissions.
Your child’s learning journal
Famly sends you a notification whenever an observation is added for your child. To add your own, choose “Add observation” (or the plus icon on an iPhone, iPad or Android device) and fill in the boxes on screen.
Pre-school staff can see all children’s learning journals. Otherwise, only you and anyone you ask us to set up as a contact, such as grandparents, can see your child’s account. If your child is in a group observation, their photo may appear in another child’s learning journal. Please let us know if you’d prefer it didn’t.
Is my data safe?
- Communication between the app and Famly’s servers is encrypted, similar to online banking.
- Data is only accessible to authorised people, and remains the property of the pre-school at all times.
- Data is stored on encrypted servers and fully backed up once a day.
